Within five minutes walk of Braeburn is the magnificent Caledonian Canal, a geological fault line which split Scotland in half millions of years ago. Neptune’s staircase is a series of locks and an engineering masterpiece constructed by Thomas Telford in 1822 designed to negotiate the sixty-foot difference between the water levels of the canal and those of Loch Linnhe.
